Pressure Treated
All timber (decking, joists, posts, balustrade and pergola) have been pressure treated with a liquid,
chromium-free wood preservative salt based on inorganic copper and boron compounds (Tanalith® E or equivalent) effective against wood destroying fungi and insects and carry the manufacturer's guarantee of 15 years.
Extracts from Tanalith® E website
'Tanalith® E wood preservative has now been used successfully since 1999 in the UK and even longer across mainland Europe. It is now the preferred preservative in over 35 countries around the world. It is this performance record that underpins the 15 year desired service performance on Tanalised® E pressure treated timbers...it has field test results that will confirm a 15 year desired service life performance for ground contact timbers' Longer life.
When using the metal post anchors with a DIYdeals raised deck no timber is directly in contact with the ground, where most rot occurs. As all the timber is pressure treated, with sensible preventative maintenance, the raised decks should last for 25 years.
Spacing of Deck boards should be 150mm from the front of the deck board to the front of the
next - this will leave a gap of 4mm to 7mm depending on the dryness of the deck boards which when wet could measure 146mm and when dry could be 143mm. |
DIYdeals Raised Deck kits |
|
|
Our Raised Deck kits include all necessary decking boards, joists, deck screws, joist hangers, corner brackets, posts, bolts and a drill bit for the bolts. Post Anchors are
also included to give a more secure, longer lasting & easier way of fixing.

The advantages of the
DIYdeals
design of RAISED deck kits are:
Longer life - when using the post anchors there is no timber directly in contact with the ground, where most rot occurs, and, as all timber is pressure treated, the raised decks will last for 25+ years.
Choice
We offer 45mm x 145mm (2" x 6") Planed Timber for all joists which enable strong raised decks with easier fixing of decking screws. Joists come in 4 sizes 2..0m (6'7"), 3.0m (9'10"), 4.0m (13'2") & 5.0m (16'5"), which can be cut down to suit your deck size.
No site levelling required - support joists are levelled using timber posts, (4 or more) depending on the size of the deck, which can anchored to the ground with metal post anchors (optional), which keep timber posts off the ground and ensure the deck is anchored to prevent uplift during strong winds. |

Our Ground Deck kits include all necessary deck boards, joists and deck screws. Corner brackets with screws are also supplied to join the joists together - these provide a stronger fixing than screws into the end grain.
GROUND decks do not require posts, anchors or bolts and require fewer joists - they are therefore less expensive than raised decks. They have the joists resting on the ground. Ground decks may use 45mm x 95mm (2" x 4") or 45mm x 145mm (2" x 6") as joists. The 145mm joists are used if the step down to the deck is high and the extra 50mm (2") deck height makes it work
without the extra cost of a raised deck.
You may wish to cut these sizes down to make a smaller deck. Deck kits may also be joined together to form a larger deck.
